Specially arranged and rung to commemorate the centenary of Private Albert Henry Wilson being killed at Arras in the Great War on 25th April 1917 aged 36. Albert was a ringer here at the Minster and also a member of the Midland Counties Association.
At the time of Albert’s death the Minster possessed the old heavy 27 cwt anti-clockwise eight which were rung from the old gallery, these not being recast and augmented to twelve until 1961. Today’s peal was rung on the light eight (bells 2 – 9 plus flat 6th).
Honourable age does not depend on length of days, nor is the number of years a true measure of life.
We Will Remember You!
With thanks to Jane for standing in at very short notice.
