Rung in memory of Serjeant George Barnard, Military Medal, a Rayne ringer who was killed in action on 11th August 1916, age 23, while serving with the Essex Regiment, 9th Battalion, on the Somme. He has no known grave and is remembered among the 72,244 names on the Thiepval Memorial, the Monument to the missing of the Somme. Their name liveth for evermore.
