Site history

  • 25th Jan 2016: If you wish to have a group of quarter peals printed together, for example those rung for a district quarter peal week, please create an event for it, enable Linked performances and then select Collate performances in The Ringing World. Please ensure that all performances get associated with this event before (or at least shortly after) the performance submitter sends them for print so they can be caught and collated. This can be done either by the person who submitted the performance, or by the owner of the event; for performances imported from Campanophile, only the latter is possible.
  • 24th Jan: We now have an RSS feed of news bulletins from the front page of BellBoard.
  • 25th Oct 2015: Users who subscribe to The Ringing World may now see this week's issue in PDF format linked prominently from the front page of BellBoard. If you are a subscriber and do not see it when logged in, this is probably because we were unable to link your BellBoard account to your subscription automatically. Contact us and we will link them manually. We also have a library of back issues allowing users to access any issues from your period of subscription. These currently go back to 2011, but we hope to continue that to 2001; they will remain available indefinitely.
  • 6th Aug: A new page shows the days of the year on which you've rung peals or other performances.
  • 4th Jul: It is now possible to download a PDF version of any performance by clicking on the PDF icon in the updated navigation menu above the performance. Many of the old options on that menu have been relegated to a new edit menu marked with a pencil icon. The left and right arrows (or the arrow keys on the keyboard) navigate to the previous and next performances, and the new up arrow returns you to the list. We would be interested in opinions on this new style of menu, especially regarding their usability on phones and tablets.
  • 2nd Jul: BellBoard now tracks the donations you've made, and allows UK tax payers to fill in a Gift Aid declaration allowing The Ringing World to claim 25p from HMRC for every £1.00 donated. This is all linked from the new-look account page, formerly the user preferences page.
  • 20th Jan: When submitting tower-bell performances, we now provide a list of known towers. Selecting one will fill in the place name, dedication and tenor weight. You can opt to use traditional county names on the preferences page. We can also report that we have cleared the backlog of reported duplicates.
  • 11th Jan: It is now possible to search the BellBoard diary.
  • 18th Jun 2014: We have introduced an RSS feed of newest performances, which can be restricted in the usual way to certain lengths, or just those in hand or in tower. It is also possible to create custom RSS feeds. Do let us know if it doesn’t work as you’d like.
  • 1st Jan: To help improve the quality of our data, it is now possible for logged-in users to flag duplicate performances. This is done using the new Flag dup. link displayed on each performance. We have also introduced a page for generating league tables of leading ringers.
  • 4th Sep 2013: In recent months a number of organisations have been asking The Ringing World to introduce advertising on BellBoard and as a result we will be doing so in early September. We hope that users of BellBoard do not find this intrusive and encourage everyone to support our advertisers.
  • 22nd Aug: Several new features have been added over the last few months. View all compositions that have been machine-proved, or use our online prover. For instructions click the ? icon. The Amend page has filters to find performances you have not sent for print. And when searching, a | can be used to denote alternatives.
  • 16th Jan: To celebrate the first anniversary of BellBoard’s launch, a year ago today, we have created new pages showing all our featured performances, and the most-liked performances ever. There is also a new page where you can view statistics on where you (or another ringer) typically ring in the circle, whether you’ve circled your local tower, and so on.
  • 20th Dec 2012: You can now configure email alerts so that you receive notification by email whenever a performance matching your search criteria is submitted to BellBoard. Also, the order of search results can be configured by selecting Display advanced functionality.
  • 27th Nov: Search results and the list of newest performances are now paged, so that you can access more than just the first 200 or 100 results, respectively. Compositions are now being imported from Campanophile, including for all historical performances.
  • 27th Sep: You can now attach photos to performances — locate a performance you submitted and follow the Upload photo link. View recent uploads. The results from searches now have an address that can be copied safely (e.g. ASCY peals). Finally, we have a highly experimental API into BellBoard.
  • 14th Aug: A number of missing quarter peals from 2011 and the first three months of 2012 have been imported from Campanophile. (If you don’t wish these historical performances to appear in the list of newest submissions, then log in or register for an account and specify a maximum age on the Preferences page.)
  • 14th Jun: New functionality when searching: search for performances in which two people rang together, or search for performances in which someone rang a particular bell.
  • 12th Jun: Performances from Campanophile are now being automatically imported, with kind permission from Tony Parry.
  • 31st May: As requested by a number of users, it is now possible to navigate directly between performances by using the [«] and [»] buttons in the search results and other lists of performances. It is also now possible for logged-in users to save commonly-used searches so that they appear in the menu bar — for example, you can save searches for your performances, your association’s peals, or performances at your local tower.
  • 23rd Mar: We have added a new events diary to which users can submit events. Performances can be associated with events, for example dinner day peals can be linked to event, and notice can be given for attempts associated with events in the future. It is also now possible to make donations to The Ringing World, either while submitting a performance or separately.
  • 20th Mar: Complete peal data from 2005 to mid-March 2012 added from peals.co.uk. (Please report any duplicates or omissions.) Any peals submitted to the Ringing World via other means (e.g. by email or via Campanophile) will now reach BellBoard within a week.
  • 6th Feb: Complete peal data for 2011 and January 2012 added from peals.co.uk.
  • 3rd Feb: Compositions can now be entered for performances. To add a composition to a performance you submitted, locate the performance and follow the Add Comp. link.
  • 30th Jan: Wild-card searching is now implemented, as is deleting performances. To delete one of your performances, make sure you are logged in, locate the performance (e.g. using the Amend page), and choose to Delete this entry.
  • 18th Jan: Our front page now includes a featured performance, determined by users choosing to like a performance. More details.
  • 17th Jan: By popular request, the Newest and Browse pages can now be filtered to only show certain types of performance, e.g. tower bells peals. The default remains to show everything, but registered users can change their default via the new preferences page.
  • 17th Jan: Submit quarters and peals for publication in The Ringing World. Find the peal (e.g. by in looking in your submissions) and follow the Send to RW link.
