Whitechapel Quarter Peals in LincolnshireSaturday, 30th December 2017
To mark the closure of the historic Whitechapel Bell Foundry earlier this year, bringing an end to over 450 years of bell founding (established 1540) and over 250 years of bell founding at 32-34 Whitechapel Road (purchased 1738/9). Quarters will be attempted at: NOCTON: 6 bells all cast complete by George Mears & Co at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in 1865. Mears & Stainbank of Whitechapel were also responsible for rehanging the bells on ball bearings in 1931. LINCOLN, ST. PETER-AT-GOWTS: 6 bells all cast complete by Mears & Stainbank at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in 1872. Mears & Stainbank were also responsible for rehanging the bells on ball bearings in the early to mid 20th century. LANGTON-BY-PARTNEY: 6 bells all cast complete by Thomas Mears II at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in 1825.
